We took inspiration from the Turati Metro station in Milan to create a complete set of products for Sancal. The end result is Turati collection (2018) that combines form and function in four products, each with its own identity, while sharing a common inspiration and design language: Next Stop sofa, an Interchange bench, a Meeting Point pouf and Mind the Gap rug.
Next Stop sofa references the symmetry of train seats and the M3’s lighting to create an endless modular seating programme. The collaboration with textile designer Marie-Louise Rosholm introduces Zero, an innovative knitted textile used as a joint between the parts. With its hand-made pattern and a gradient effect, the knitting technique avoids the need for any stitching in the upholstery offering a solution that guarantees a zero-waste production process.
The Interchange bench base is inspired by the architectural forms of Turati Station’s lattice ceiling. The circle is the dominant shape in Meeting point pouf, representing the station’s hole-like windows that open onto galleries and platforms. While Mind the Gap rug echoes the PA system warning us to be careful about the gaps between the train and the platform.
