Experimental carpet art with a multicultural cultural agenda and strong emphasis on traditional techniques
Nodus is an experimental craft workshop with a cultural plan. Restoring the oldest wisdoms and knowledge in the art of carpet design and reinterpreting it using the vision of designers and architects. The company produces only unique pieces, promoted through events and publications in order to spread the knowledge to all about their craft.
Regata Storica (2013) is a hand-tufted rug made from fine Indian wool. It is inspired by our hometown, Venice, where eastern carpet-making techniques meet western aesthetics. The name “Regata Storica” refers to the annual Venetian sporting event, a historical pageant and rowing race that uses brightly painted vessels: the rug features a graphic depiction of these colourful boats, lined up as if ready to race.
Geoart (2009) is a set of six small carpet modules, all hand-woven from wool and silk. Each module is irregularly shaped and can be combined with the others to create overlapping effects. Inspired by Asia’s diverse carpet-making traditions, and the materials, patterns and methods they work with, each Geoart module is produced in a different country and evokes a different tradition, spanning China, India, Pakistan, Tibet, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
